Hi! My name is Ms. Lizzie. I am the Children’s Specialist at the Madison Library. I will be sharing news with you for children all over the county in the elementary grades.

September is here, and we’re all settling into a new routine. I hope you’ll make it a habit to regularly visit your local library. We always have exciting new programs and services to offer. Our regular programming will begin the week of September 10. National Library Card Sign-up Month is September. Your libraries will be honoring this event is a variety of ways. Check out the calendar for all the branches. You can attend any event you choose.

September is National Potato Month too. In honor of both Library card sign-up and potatoes the Madison Library will be offering a special “potato” storytime for all ages on Thursday, September 27 at 3:30. If you show your library card, you can enter the drawing for door prizes. It’s sure to be fun.

It is just as important to read aloud to children of elementary school age as it is to read to those of preschool age. Try reading one chapter a night of a book of your choice. It’s a great way to share the classics with your children. Not only will you be spending quality time together, you’ll also help develop listening comprehension skills.

Check out the website of the Children’s Book Council for information on great books and authors for a variety of ages.

We wish you a grand and glorious fall and look forward to seeing you soon in our libraries.
