Madison County Library System
Position: Circulation Assistant
Position Summary: Must have great interpersonal communication skills and enjoy working with people, as this job requires a high level of interaction with the public. An ability to multi-task and prioritize while exceeding the needs of our patrons is also desired.
Location: Ridgeland Public Library
Education/Exp: BA/BS Degree from an accredited college or university; customer service work experience. Previous library experience preferred.
Work under the supervision of the Head of Circulation and Branch Manager.
Register patrons, issue library cards, and update records.
Handle cash register transactions.
Check materials in and out using the automated Sirsi system.
Assist patrons with computer and technical activities, such as word processing, document attachments, email, use of Internet, and scanning documents.
Answer telephones and provide routine information or refer and transfer calls.
Assist with shelf reading, shifting books and re-shelving materials.
Respond promptly and courteously to resolve any patron complaints.
Refer patrons, whose complaints cannot be resolved, to the Head of Circulation or Branch Manager.
Must be flexible with ability to handle stress and interruptions.
Secure the building at closing.
Other duties as assigned
Hours: This is a 40 hour per week full-time position.
Work hours will include evenings and Saturdays.
Salary: Salary is dependent upon education and experience. Full state benefits package including state health insurance and basic dental insurance.
Physical Requirements: The employee may be required to climb, kneel, reach, push or pull loaded book carts, lift and carry stacks of books, or move boxes of books. The employee may be required to lift up to 35 pounds.
