MCLS Promotes Reading Through Poster Campaign
(Canton, MS) – The Madison County Library System has launched a poster campaign designed to promote reading in the area. “Our library system has devoted a lot of time towards updating technolgy resources and expanding our film and audio collections, but we want to give our patrons a reminder that we’re still about books and reading,” explains library director Sandra Sanders.
The posters, which feature Madison County mayors, were produced in-house by Jason Moore, MCLS’s public information officer. Future posters in this series will feature other Madison County public officials as well as local personalities.
The posters will start circulating in MCLS branches and around the county November 2nd. “The release date of the READ posters coincides perfectly for Children’s Book Week, which is November 12th-18th,” notes Martha Womack, MCLS Youth Services Director. “Children’s Book Week has been celebrated nationally since 1919. Its purpose is to bring communities together to talk about books and the public’s love of books. Librarians, teachers, parents, booksellers, artists, authors, and publishers devote time and energy each November to promote higher standards in children’s books, and make the week an exciting one for all involved,” says Womack.
For information about how to obtain posters for public display, please contact Jason Moore, MCLS public information officer, at (601)-859-7733 x108 or jmoore@mcls.ms.
